Craig Riley

Craig is a senior chartered civil and structural engineer with over 12 years of industry and consulting engineering experience ranging from site engineering to experience in the inspection and condition assessment of civil structures, as well as having in depth technical knowledge in steel and reinforced concrete design. Craig is very practical, exceptional at communication and comfortable solving challenging problems, which often results in cost and time savings for projects. He is also an active member of the committee for the development of AS5100 able to offer superior knowledge of the code requirements and ways to navigate it. 

A significant highlight in Craig’s recent experience has been his successful delivery of the 1600 m long, 36 span Bridge over Clarence River at Harwood. Craig was the lead bridge designer responsible for the team delivering the design and documentation of all components of the bridge. Challenges he overcame involved designing very high slender columns, resisting large marine vessel collision forces and delivering robust bridge solutions that integrated well into the environmentally sensitive surroundings.  Craig also continued through the entire construction phase as a fulltime engineer on site. He provided the contractor with creative solutions to reinforcement congestion, money saving design refinements, concrete defect repair methods, temporary works designs and construction methodology for the bridge.

Daniel Merrikin

Dan is a senior chartered structures engineer at Bridge Knowledge.  Dan has over 9 years of industry experience within the private and the government sectors in Australia.  He has experience in design and analysis for structural, civil and geotechnical engineering.   His key strengths include design, assessments, timely delivery, project and contract management with experience in both construction and maintenance.   

His recent works include infrastructure and bridge designs for TfNSW, various Local Government Councils and Contractors.  Additional to detail design, Dan also assists with project estimations and specifications and has undertaken numerous Level 3 bridge inspections including load capacity assessments of timber, steel, and reinforced concrete bridges and culverts. 

Dan is known for his friendly nature and “nothing is a problem” attitude and we are proud to offer him to our projects as one of our key representatives knowing that he will work to your needs to ensure your project is delivered successfully.

Peter Mahar

Peter is a Civil Engineer with 30-plus years of industry experience within the private sector, both in Australia and internationally. He has also worked extensively in the government sector in Australia. His key strengths include strong leadership with a proven track record of achievement across various operating environments.

Peter has broad knowledge and extensive experience in all facets of civil engineering, including investigation, design, construction, and asset management. He is respected in the community for his down-to-earth attitude, proven track record, strong leadership capabilities and sound engineering experience.

He has extensive knowledge of Government policies and procedures and “hands-on” site-based experience to provide input to optimise the planning and design processes.

Peter Rotolone

Peter is a qualified Civil Engineer who specialises in bridge design, management of design teams and construction supervision of major road infrastructure.

Peter’s skills in this area have been well developed during his 40-plus years associated with bridge infrastructure whilst employed in the Department of Main Roads dealing with projects throughout Queensland and, more recently, the Gateway Upgrade Project.

He has been involved in designing several significant bridges in Queensland, including concrete box girders, precast concrete beam elements, in situ post-tensioned voided slab bridges and all types of substructure components.

Peter has extensive experience in directing and supervising bridge design teams, preparation of contract documentation, tender assessment and construction advice, and the management and bridge designs carried out by various consultancies. He regularly provides expert advice to external agencies in the areas of bridge design and construction.

Amrit Singh

Amrit is a Structural Engineer at Bridge Knowledge, providing support for design documentation (reports and drawings) for bridges and bridge foundations, structural engineering support and load capacity assessments for our Bridge Inspection Services team, road designs for bridge replacement projects, hydraulic sizing of culverts and 1D and 2D flood modelling for bridges and developments. His key strengths include problem-solving, leadership, the ability to work under pressure and his advanced knowledge of several Autodesk software packages.

James Armstrong

James is a Senior Civil Designer at Bridge Knowledge with 13+ years of experience within the civil construction and engineering industry. His work comprises of 3D geometric road modelling, construction engineering drafting, project management, road safety auditing and UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) piloting and surveying.

Working in the engineering profession has built James’s strengths in design and drafting using various CAD software packages. James also formally trained and developed problem solving and management skills. His time in the industry has been within state government services and private companies and spans from conceptual design to project delivery.

James has lived in rural Australia for most of his time and has a passion for supporting the engineering and construction industry in the regions. Typical project work that James completes is road reconstructions and realignments, drainage and crossing upgrades, road signposting and linemarking, footpaths and crossings, road safety improvements as well as various associated civil design works for bridge relocations and installations. James is accredited to complete Road Safety Auditing project work and complete various audits for road and civil projects.

Gavin Mulcahy

Gavin is a Senior Civil Designer with an Associate Degree iof Engineering (Civil) with 30+ years of industry experience within the private and the government sectors in Australia. He has experience in design and analysis for road design and traffic engineering across multiple projects.

His key strengths include computer aided design, tehcnical problem solving, project management, pavement design and engineering survey. Gavin brings extensive experience in the aforementioned areas of infrastructure construction and maintenance and shows strengths in many areas of an entire project life cycle, from conceptulisation through to delivery.

To compliment hi srural and regional infrastructure project works, Gavin also has a strong background in the development of urban projects. Gavin has completed survey and detailed design for uban street, footpath and laneway upgrades, intersections and roundabout, road furniture and pedestrian facilities.

Beyond engineering design, Gavin also has significant experience in flood warning system and levee infrastructure emergency opertions, management and maintenance services.

Simon Bruce

Simon has been a Senior Structural Engineer for over 25 years with significant experience in a diverse range of Civil and Structural Engineering services.

Simon is experienced in subdivision, commercial and industrial structural and civil design consisting of concrete and steel structures, bridges, roads, carparks, stormwater management, stormwater conveyance, retaining structures, water reticulation and sewer reticulation.

Simon has been involved in the design of thousands of residential Structural Engineering projects ranging from small alterations and additions to multi-storey curved concrete residences.

Mark Burridge

Mark joins the Bridge Knowledge team after owning and running the successful consulting firm McKenzie Burridge and Associates for over 22 years. Mark brings a wealth of experience in civil and structural engineering design and construction supervision together with business management skills.


Mark is a highly skilled Chartered Professional Engineer with extensive experience in  a wide variety of Civil and Structural Engineering projects including residential, commercial and industrial buildings, bridges and subdivisions.

Collaborating with architects, contractors, clients and stakeholders, Mark is able to develop engineering design solutions to meet the project briefs, timelines, budgets and specifications.

Ian Barringham

Ian is a Civil Engineer with over 30 years of industry experience in the private sector in Australia and internationally. He has a vast knowledge of bridge construction and project management skills with a proven track record of achievement across a diverse range of operating environments. Based on this experience, Ian has been providing independent constructability advice since 2014.

Projects include:

  • North West Rail Project and West Connex in Sydney
  • C912 Project in Singapore
  • NOH3 Project in Qatar
  • 6 Tollway Project in Jakarta

Shea Neilson

Shea is an accomplished Senior Civil Designer known for her exceptional design and drafting expertise. With over a decade of proficiency in utilizing 12d and a total of 13 years immersed in the industry, Shea brings a wealth of modeling experience to the table. Her project portfolio spans from smaller-scale ventures valued at $40K to substantial Transport and Civil Infrastructure projects worth $1.5 billion.

Throughout her career, Shea has collaborated with various clients including Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics (DIPL NT), Mackay Regional Council, Whitsunday Regional Council, and numerous private sector entities. Her expertise encompasses a diverse spectrum of civil design elements, encompassing highways, urban reconstruction, rail, drainage, earthworks, water supply, wastewater, as well as mining and industrial projects.

Shea’s professional journey includes pivotal roles leading design teams on significant infrastructure and planning endeavors, some exceeding a valuation of $800 million.
